Position Title: STEM2 Instructional Coach

Classification: Certified-Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: School Principal

 

Position Overview:

The STEM2 Instructional Coach, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with classroom

teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The STEM2 Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group

professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding about researched-base effective instruction for teachers.

In order to meet this purpose, the STEM Instructional Coach will provide personalized, one-to-one support based on the goals

and identified needs of individual teachers.

 

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

A. Instruction Leadership

1. Serve as a content specialist in reading, writing, science and math to assist in the development and implementation

of campus instructional plans that align to district goals and STEM2 curriculum.

2. Collaborate with teachers to review, develop and plan standards-based lessons and assessments aligned to the

district STEM2 curriculum.

3. Encourage and support the implementation of technology and innovative strategies in the classroom.

4. Provide individual and/or group instructional coaching and mentoring to teachers to improve classroom instruction

for all learners.

5. Conduct teacher observations and/or walk-throughs and provide feedback that facilitates teacher reflection and

growth.

6. Evaluate student achievement and assist with placing students in the appropriate intervention and support service.

7. Identify needs and make recommendations for appropriate instructional materials and assessments that directly

support and align to the Arizona Career and College Ready Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

8. Collaborate with teachers to identify the instructional needs of students, to set learning goals and targets and to

problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students.

9. Work with the principal to create the school's professional development plan, structure related coaching and identify

specific, measurable and attainable benchmarks for teacher and student performance.

10. Provide specific integration and differentiation strategies that enable teachers to meet the needs of all learners.

11. Work collaboratively with teachers to provide integrated, engaging, and meaningful hands-on STEM2 oriented

instruction (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) through inquiry and problem/project__

based learning methods.

12. Provide assistance to teachers and staff members in planning and incorporating STEM2 activities into classroom

instruction.

13. Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.

14. Provide support for classroom motivation and classroom management strategies.

15. Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with the STEM2 curriculum.

16. Provide teachers resources related to STEM2 instruction and STEM2 curriculum.

17. Model effective, differentiated instruction when requested.

18. Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.

19. Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments.

 

B. Testing

1. Oversee the school’s assessment procedure, training, data collection and collaborate with the principal to complete

reports due.

 

 

C. Curriculum

1. Assist with development of district STEM2 curriculum, instruction and assessments.

2. Serve on the STEM2 Integration Curriculum Committee and contributes to all discussions about STEM2 subjects.

3. Provide assistance in researching STEM2 instructional and/or STEM2 curriculum issues.

D. Data Analysis

1. Work with teachers and campus administration to analyze student assessment data, diagnose instructional needs

and identify research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps.

2. Assist with the campus strategic plan and formulation of the IAP.

3. Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data results for all content areas.

E. Communication

1. Provide ongoing feedback to school administration to be used in the teacher evaluation process.

2. Meet regularly with PLC teams and the school principal to report on instructional practices and progress while

also planning “next steps” for student and school improvement.

3. Read, comprehend, and prepare various kinds of communication and information including emails,

correspondence, reports, articles, proposals, policies, charts, spreadsheets, curriculum documents, staff

development plans, educational forms and data.

 

F. Professional Development

1. Work with school administration to design and provide professional development focused on improving

alignment and delivery of the written, taught and tested STEM2 curriculum to increase student success and close

performance gaps.

2. Provide job-embedded professional development for teachers through modeling engaging, standards-based

teaching, as needed.

3. Provide professional development on best practices in literacy, math and STEM2 instruction across the curriculum.

4. Share best practices and provide professional development in STEM2 education with colleagues.

5. Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.

6. Manage and distribute instructional resources to teachers and provide training on the use of those resources.

G. Miscellaneous

1. Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.

2. Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.

3. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building school improvement goals.

4. Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions.

5. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the School

Principal.

 

Education

• Bachelor Degree in Education

• Advanced degree in Instruction and Curriculum

• Reading and/or Mathematics Endorsements

 

 

Licenses or Certifications

• A valid Arizona Teaching Certificate

• Appropriately Certified as defined by ADE in content area and/or grade-level

• SEI Endorsement

• ESL and/or Bilingual Endorsement

• A valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

• National Board Certification

 

 

Experience

• Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience

• Advanced technology experience and training

• Experience in development, preparation and

presentation of professional development

• 5+ years of successful teaching experience in a STEM2 or

related area

• Experience working with English Language Learning

students

• Deep knowledge of and experience in:

a) Arizona Career and College Ready Standards

b) Next Generation Science Standards

c) Inquiry Learning

d) Problem/Project Based Learning

e) Research-based Instructional Best

f) Practices/Strategies in Reading and Math

g) Assessment/Data Driven Instruction

• Experience in analyzing student achievement data

• Experience working with K – 4th graders

• Advanced training in instruction, curriculum, technology

integration, and student management

• Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban

population

Working Environment

• The work environment is a normal school setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate.

• The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust and extreme seasonal temperatures.

 

Terms of Employment

• Ten-month, Certified - Exempt; benefits in accordance with Board policies.

 

Evaluation

• Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Governing Board policy on evaluation of certified staff.
