TITLE: School Psychologist Intern
CLASSIFICATION: Volunteer
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, the School Psychologist Intern will provide psychological services to children.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes psycho-educational evaluations and re-evaluations as part of a multidisciplinary team evaluation
- Completes evaluations within the appropriate timelines.
- Uses a variety of appropriate instruments/strategies to assess student abilities.
- Utilizes professional and adopted standards for report preparation.
- Submits evaluations for transcription, editing and review within District timelines.
- Participates in multidisciplinary conferences.
- Attends allotted scheduled student conferences.
- Serves as team leader, as requested, for student conferences.
- Conducts conferences in a professional manner.
- Provides short-term counseling to students (1:1 or group)
- Maintains professional documents
- Address goals/objectives of the session
- Participates in crisis intervention services as requested by site administrators
- Responds in a timely manner to crisis situations.
- Upon request, assumes leadership/guidance role within crisis situations based on experience
- Interprets assessment data as needed to parents and district staff
- Gives accurate and complete data in a format understood by educators and parents.
- Generates and supports recommendations based on the available data.
- Ensures that recommendations and instructional strategies are consistent with available data.
- Provides technical assistance to school staff in areas such as classroom modifications for learning and/or social/behavior management
- Demonstrates an understanding of classroom formats conducive to specific learning needs and styles
- Provides in-service training at the request of the site administrator and/or Director of Special Education.
- Serves as consultant for parents for areas such as child development, behavioral management, cognitive development, family dynamics, interpersonal communications
- Meets with parents to discuss their concerns regarding student cognitive and/or emotional development
- At parent request, consults with community agencies providing services to the child
- Makes his/herself available to meet with parent as needed
- Develops and submits monthly and annual reports as requested by Director of Special Education
- Submits documentation in a timely matter
- Follows adopted procedures and standards

EDUCATION:
- Masters in Psychology or in a related field required.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- A valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Ability to work effectively with District and School Administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and community agencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The working environment is an office or classroom setting.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Ten months, 20 to 40 hours per week (flexible schedule).
- Incentive package offered upon completion of internship as funding permits.
SUPERVISION:
- Individual and/or group supervision from a certified school psychologist with a clinical psychology background
- 2 hours for a 40-hour work week
- 1 hour for a 20-hour work week
