TITLE:

Special Education Paraprofessional

 

CLASSIFICATION:

Classified – Hourly

 

REPORTS TO:

School Principal/Assigned Teacher

 

SUMMARY:

The Paraprofessional will provide instructional and non-instructional (clerical) support for the assigned
teacher for duties that the teacher is unable to perform.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide instruction and classroom management services under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher.
2. Provide instruction to individual students and small groups of students.
3. Assist in developing and preparing instructional materials and training modules.
4. Assist with the establishment and reinforcement of acceptable student behavior, attitudes and social skills.
5. Assist with student enrichment activities including field trips, art, music, drama and recreation.
6. Assist with recordkeeping for instructional program and student programs.
7. Assist with the inventory and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
8. Monitor and assist with transporting students to and from school and on field trips.
9. Monitor and assist students during meal and recess periods.
10. Maintain schedule established by supervising teacher.
11. Use a variety of activities and materials approved by the supervising teacher.
12. Work effectively with general and special education teachers.
13. Supervise students as assigned by School Principal.
14. Assist with student testing administration and scoring.
15. Assist classroom teacher with general clean-up and preparation.
16. Participate in annual program assessments.
17. Attend in-service training for continued professional development.
18. Perform any and all job related duties assigned by School Principal and/or District Administration.

 

EDUCATION:
- An AA degree or 60 hours of college credits or a passing score on a paraprofessional test is required

- Bachelor's degree preferred


LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

- Substitute Teaching Certificate preferred
- Current MMR immunizations
- CPR and First Aid Certified
- A valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card


EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population
- Experience working with minority and ELL students preferred

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred.
- Ability to relate to needs of low-income families.
- This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with
students, teachers, parents and administrators.
- Willingness to pursue additional training in job-related areas.
- Ability to interpret local, state, and federal regulations, policies and procedures related to the job.
- Ability to bend, carry and lift 40 pounds, kneels, push and pull 25 pounds.
- Ability to maintain a safe, learning environment.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The work environment is a normal school setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate. The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust, and extreme seasonal temperatures.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Ten-month year, At-Will, hourly; benefits in accordance with Board policies.
