Position:  AP/Honors English Teacher

Job Description:  Maricopa Institute of Technology STEM High School (MIT) serves students in grades 9- 12 in the urban, industrialized, and commercial area of Phoenix, Arizona.  MIT is dedicated to preparing future leaders in STEM and focusing on scholarship that positively impact local, national, and global communities.  MIT will provide a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Program to students within a state-of-the-art research facility designed to prepare our students for collegiate success and successful STEM careers.  We welcome individuals who accept the challenge of building their future in a STEM educational program.  The successful candidate will build a program of research and scholarships in English education, and will have opportunities to collaborate with other faculty to develop the STEM program.  Major responsibilities include: (1) implementation of an Honors/AP and Dual Enrollment English Instructional Program with concentration in writing, rhetoric’s and literacies that teach students strategies for inquiry, (2) collaboration and support in the development, delivery, implementation, and monitoring of STEM curriculum, initiatives, events, and projects, (3) seek to acquire external funding, (4) establish and maintain a record of scholarly productivity as demonstrated through lesson planning and student assessment data, and (5) provide service to the school and community.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree and Master’s Degree in English.
  • Demonstration of three or more years of teaching English in high school setting.
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Appropriately Certified/Highly Qualified (HQ) in content area
  • Full SEI Endorsement, Full ESL, and/or Full Bilingual Endorsement is required.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience in curriculum development for teaching English—Honors, Advanced Placement—with concentrations in creative writing, linguistics, literature and writing, rhetoric’s and literacies, state and national teaching standards.

Demonstrated success or potential for success in obtaining external funds.

Potential to assume a leadership role in English education.

Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse learners and in adapting instruction for different levels of learners.

Experience integrating innovative technology with instruction.
