TITLE: Director of Technology & Technology Infrastructure Construction
CLASSIFICATION: Administrative - Exempt
REPORTS TO: Associate Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Computer Technicians
SUMMARY: To serve as the administrative leader in the development, implementation, and coordination of the District’s technology program as a support to the continuous improvement of the Riverside educational community and the achievement of district goals.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES
Responsible for day to day oversight and development of the following functions:
- Construction IT Planning and Design
- Technology Strategic Planning
- Telephone Network
- Network Design and Engineering
- Database Management and Desktop Support
- Website and Online Applications
- Software Applications
- Student Information Systems
- Printer Services
- Data Storage and Backup
- GIS/Transportation Databases
- Audio and Video Systems
- New funding sources and Grant-writing Efforts
- Video Production and Broadcast
- Staff Technology Training
- Research, evaluate, and make recommendations for hardware and software supporting district instructional technology program.
- Assist with developing K-8 technology curriculum
- Develop, direct, monitor and evaluate technology needs for Riverside Elementary School District in collaboration with the School Principals and other District Administrators.
- Establish ongoing technology plan to accommodate changes in education and information management for future academic and administrative needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor all budget matters concerning district technology in collaboration with the Associate Superintendent.
- Establish and implement department policies, procedures and guidelines regarding work standards in the IT Department.
- Provide supervision and evaluation of computer technicians; ensure that standards for quality and quantity of work are met.
- Analyze department workflow and staff duties to recommend reorganization or departmental realignment.
- Establish a hardware and software tracking system; supervise placement and security of equipment.
- Communicate effectively with staff about technology issues, updates and staff development opportunities.
- Monitor District practices to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and District Acceptable Use Policy.
- Manage and take full responsibility for the E-Rate application process for the District.
- Provide grant writing support and expertise to all technology grant-writing opportunities for the District.
- Assure the integration of all electronic data systems with the District’s strategic plans and existing systems.
- Contract with technical personnel or vendors to solve problems or improve performance.
- Participate in technical projects such as writing equipment specifications, requests for proposals and/or developing programs for specified applications or services.
- Evaluate proposed data processing projects to assess adequacy of existing hardware and recommend purchase of software and equipment.
- Present IT related issues to Administrative Team, public groups, and Governing Board.
- Perform any and all job related duties assigned by supervisor.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required in educational administration, computer science or a related business field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- Certification as Microsoft product specialist or certification as Microsoft solution developer and programming experience preferred
- A valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
EXPERIENCE:
- Five to seven years’ experience K-8 technology in the educational environment preferred.
- Three to five years’ experience managing the Management Information Services, data processing, computers and all computer services in a comparably sized organization.
- Experience in training and/or curriculum development.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art technology as it pertains to school applications.
- Knowledge of hardware and software resources, organizations, developers and vendors.
- Demonstrated specialized knowledge and ability to work with highly complex situations and procedures.
- High level of English proficiency for completing tasks, telephone communication, and preparation of written correspondence including skills in spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment to set priorities and make decisions.
- Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The work environment is mainly performed in a normal office environment or a computer room, which is often cooler than a normal office setting.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Twelve-month year, Administrative-Exempt; benefits in accordance with Board policy.
EVALUATION:
- Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of administrative staff.
