REPORTS TO:
School Principal or Vice-Principal
SUMMARY:
Teacher is expected to carry out duties and responsibilities under the supervision and guidance of the school principal, vice-principal and/or teacher on special assignment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Implementation of Instructional Program
- Teachers share primary responsibility for implementing the district's required curriculum, as set forth in the curriculum scope and sequence adopted by the Governing Board.
- Each teacher shall be provided with a copy of the curriculum scope and sequence at the beginning of each school year which shall include the key district policies and procedures relating to implementation of the instructional program.
- Teachers will be required to prepare and have available for review upon request weekly lesson plans based on the SIOP model lesson plan and as outlined by the school administrator.
- All teachers will be required to submit substitute lesson plans which will be updated quarterly or as needed or upon request by the school administrator.
- Teachers will assign mandatory homework in support of the instructional program.
- Teachers are expected to maintain up-to-date grade books which record student achievement on classroom assignments, tests, homework, projects and other assigned activities utilizing the school district's standard based report card.
- Teachers are expected to instruct and guide student achievement toward meeting the districted-mandated competencies in each content area.
- Teachers are required to follow all state and district testing guidelines.
- Teachers will prepare and disseminate report cards according to district guidelines and procedures.
- Teachers will complete and submit substitute evaluation forms through the principal to the Human Resources Department.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
B. Supervision of Students
- Teachers are expected to provide a classroom environment which protects the health, safety and welfare of all students.
- Teachers will implement the school adopted discipline approach to student discipline in all classrooms.
- Teachers will share with administrators the responsibility to provide adequate supervision of students.
C. School Operations
- Teachers will assist in the maintenance of student records, including attendance accounting and cumulative folders.
- Teachers will share the responsibility for the care of equipment and instructional materials assigned or allocated to their classrooms and will assist administration in the maintenance of up-to-date inventory lists.
D. Participation in In-Service Programs
- Each teacher will be required to participate in scheduled in-service workshops during the normal workday. Every effort will be made to have substitutes and/or administration supervise the classes of participating teachers.
- Any non-reimbursed in service program may require teachers to stay past the normal workday.
- Teachers will be required to participate in staff development and in-service programs/workshops as prescribed by the school administration.
E. Interaction with Parents
- Teachers are expected to maintain positive, professional relationships with parents. Teachers are to communicate with parents regarding academic progress and student behavior on a regular basis or as determined by the school administration.
- Teachers will be required to attend scheduled evening parent-teacher conferences at the school as determined by school administration.
- Traveling special area teachers will be required to attend evening parent-teacher conference as determined by the school administration.
- Teachers will be required to attend Parent-Teacher functions at the school in addition to the parent-teacher conferences (teachers are expected to attend all meetings and functions) such as Open House.
F. Interaction with Staff
- Employees are expected to conduct themselves in a positive and professional manner consistent with the effective and orderly operation of the District.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor Degree required.
- Advanced degree in instruction and curriculum preferred.
- Reading and Mathematics Endorsements preferred.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- A valid Arizona teacher certification required
- Highly Qualified (HQ) in content area and grade level.
- Full ESL and/or Full Bilingual Endorsement required. Provisional ESL or Bilingual Endorsements will be at the discretion of the school administration.
- Full SEI Endorsement required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population; experience working with minority and ELL students preferred.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Moderate to advanced technology experience and training required.
- Advanced training in instruction, curriculum, technology integration, and student management preferred.
- Ability to speak, writes, and read Spanish fluently preferred.
WORKING CONDTIONS:
- The work environment is a normal school setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud, but is usually moderate. The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust, and extreme seasonal temperatures.
TERMS OF EMPLOYEMENT:
- Ten-month, Certified-Exempt; benefits in accordance with Board policies.

- 70% of Teacher overall evaluation will be based on Student Achievement as detailed in the school’s CIP.
