TITLE: Meals Benefits Clerk
CLASSIFICATION: Classified - Hourly
REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Services Manager
SUMMARY: The clerk will provide clerical support for the meal benefit accounting of the child nutrition services operations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere federal and state laws, regulations, local and state health ordinances and district policies.
- Assist with cafeteria, kitchen and staff lounge on a daily basis.
- Assist with promotions to collect meal benefit applications.
- Determine meal benefit status according to guidelines.
- Communicate with school site staff and/or households to ensure accurate records.
- Collect and organize meal benefit applications.
- Manage computer meal benefit record system, ensuring records and files are current.
- Provide weekly point of sale roster for cashier.
- Conduct income verification according to federal guidelines and prescribed procedures.
- Substitute for school site system operators/cashier as needed.
- Attend in-service meetings and trainings to continue staff development.
- Perform any and all job related duties assigned by the Child Nutrition Services Supervisor and School Principal.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Maricopa County Food Handler’s Card
- School Nutrition Association certification is desirable
- A valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
EXPERIENCE:
- One-year school food service experience or two years’ experience with institutional large volume food service production.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for meeting with the general public, district personnel and administration.
- Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred.
- Ability to work with detail and high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to type 30 words per minute.
- Ability to use computer functions including spreadsheets and data base systems.
- Ability to use general office machinery.
- Ability to use discretion with confidential information.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The working environment is the normal office setting along with a working environment in the cafeteria kitchen and dining room that includes exposure to noise and vibrations from kitchen equipment, fumes and odors from grease traps, and heat from stoves and ovens.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Nine-month, At-Will, hourly; benefits in accordance with Board policies.
EVALUATION:
- Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
